While there are some websites and website owners that are more impressed with unique views for their website, I believe the return user is where you should be focused. This means you did your job, they liked your site, and are coming back because there is a sort of trust that was built. Here are some things you can do to make this happen:
1) Nothing like a forum to keep them chatting
When you start a forum, chatroom or shoutbox, you are providing your visitors a place to voice their opinions and interact with their peers — all of them are visitors of your site. As conversations build up, a sense of community will also follow and your visitors will come back to your site almost religiously every day.
2) Get blogging today
Keep an online journal, or more commonly known as a blog, on your site and keep it updated with latest news about yourself. Human beings are curious creatures and they will keep their eyes glued to the monitor if you post fresh news frequently. You will also build up your credibility as you are proving to them that there is also a real life person behind the website.
3) Carry out polls or surveys
Polls can serve 2 purposes. For starters, if you post a pretty decent poll, people will keep coming back to see what is going on and how the vote is going. The other thing you can do is use your poll to get content from your customers and then use this to optimize your site a bit better.
4) Oh How I Love Games
Games are pretty big online. Now, you don’t have to have the best games. You can just have some simple games office people can play when they are supposed to be working. Maybe even offer some prizes for top scores. Might be another good way to collect some names and emails.
5) You need new stuff every day
If you can keep your site updated as often as possible, people will keep coming back to see what is happening. They really do not want to miss out on anything. This is why it is extremely important for you to keep your blogs and forums updated. Just by doing one of the above items is a great way to get people coming back to your site.
